GPX β†’ JSON Converter
Quickly convert a GPX track into a roadbook ready for Roadbook Editor.
GPX to JSON is a tool designed for users who are already familiar with Roadbook Editor and want to speed up roadbook preparation starting from a real reconnaissance route.

  • It converts a GPX file into JSON.
  • It automatically reads the waypoints.
  • It creates all the roadbook notes.
  • It generates a file ready for Roadbook Editor.

Instruction manual in Italian, Spanish and English.

If you are not familiar with Roadbook Editor, this tool is probably not suitable for you.
HOW IT WORKS:
Preparation
Create a dedicated roadbook folder on your Windows computer.
After the reconnaissance, copy the required files into this folder:
  • .gpx track
  • .wpt waypoint, or waypoint already included in GPX file
Before starting:
  • Turn on the GPS and wait for the fix.
  • Create the first waypoint at the start.
  • Start track recording.
Do not rename the waypoints.
During the route:
Create a waypoint when:
  • a junction may create uncertainty
  • you encounter obstacles or significant points
  • you want to highlight a useful landmark
It is not necessary to mark every obvious deviation.
Recommended method:
  • waypoint β†’ junction
  • waypoint β†’ obstacle
  • waypoint β†’ landmark
If necessary, add a short description
(e.g. β€œtree”, β€œrock”).
End of reconnaissance
  • Create the finish waypoint.
  • Stop recording.

On the GPS you will have:
  • GPX file
  • WPT file (if separate)
At home, on your computer:
Copy the .gpx file and the .wpt file into the prepared folder
(if the waypoints are separate from the track), then:
  • start GPX to JSON
  • select the GPX file
The program automatically generates the JSON file.
Final work
Open the file in Roadbook Editor and:
  • adjust the junctions
  • add details
  • complete the descriptions
IMPORTANT
GPX to JSON is not a fully automatic tool:
It is used to quickly identify junctions and key points, but the roadbook must always be checked and refined manually.
